Arcadia American Little League

Parent Code of Conduct

Arcadia American Little League has implemented the following Parent Code of Conduct for the important message it holds about the proper role of parents in supporting their child in sports. Parents should read, understand and sign this form prior to their children participating in our league.

Any parent guilty of improper conduct at any game or practice might be asked to leave the sports facility and face suspension from the following game. Repeat violations may cause a multiple game suspension, or the season forfeiture of the privilege of attending all games.

Preamble:

The essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles:

·         Trustworthiness,

·         Respect,

·         Responsibility,

·         Fairness,

·         Caring, and

·         Good Citizenship

The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these “six pillars of character”.

I therefore agree:

1.          I will not force my child to participate in sports.

2.          I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for the youth, not adults.

3.          I will inform the coach of any physical disability/ailment that may affect the safety of my child or others.

4.          I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.

5.          I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating a positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.

6.          I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or parent such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures.

7.          I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.

8.          I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

9.          I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.

10.      I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

11.      I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.

12.      I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.

13.      I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning. I will also de-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.

14.      I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of my personal desire I may have for my child to win.

15.      I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.

16.      I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.

Coaching Code of Conduct

Coaching a youth sport program such as Little League Baseball is a privilege that is not to be taken for granted. As a Manager or coach, appointed by the Arcadia American Little League (AALL) Board of Directors, you have an important role in the development of the young children in our community. We strive to teach each child the positive values of trust, good sportsmanship, good citizenship, responsibility, respect, fair play and teamwork – values they can use throughout their lives.  As such, the Arcadia American Little League expects each manager and coach to adhere to the following Code of Conduct:

1.       I will promote good sportsmanship, teach good baseball skills, and have fun in the process.

2.       I will endeavor to make baseball participation a fun and enjoyable experience for all the League’s boys and girls.

3.       I will make teaching and instruction of baseball skills and strategy my primary goal and will make every attempt to balance criticism with praise for every player.

4.       I will emphasize fairness and team participation over winning.

5.       I will not let winning be my primary motivation in coaching and will emphasize and encourage the development of superior skill, character, and “team” concepts.

6.       I will focus on providing instruction commensurate with players abilities, so all players have the opportunity to advance their skills towards their full potential, gain confidence and develop self-esteem, as well as establish a solid foundation for further baseball competition.

7.       I understand verbal abuse of an official, coach, player, or spectator, including obscene gestures, will not be tolerated and that the offender may be removed from the field at the discretion of an umpire or AALL board member.

8.       I will interact with opposing coaches in a professional manner. At no time should a coach yell from one dugout to another at an opposing coach. Coaches are to address other coaches between innings and with the umpire present. If the need arises to address an opposing coach before the end of the half inning, the coach should ask the umpire to call timeout to address the opposing coach at home plate.

9.       I will ensure that fans of the team conduct themselves with sportsmanship and maturity at all times while in attendance at game sites and will assist the officials in maintaining control of spectators during games.

10.   I understand alcoholic beverages and the use of illicit drugs are prohibited at any of the AALL sanctioned events.

I, the undersigned, agree to follow the Code of Conduct and comply with all League rules, policies

and procedures. I understand the violation of the Code will not be tolerated and that violations will

subject me to disciplinary action that could include a warning, game(s) suspension or season suspension, as well as impact my opportunity to manage or coach in future seasons. I further acknowledge the authority of the Board of Directors of Arcadia American Little League and understand that if permitted to manage or coach I serve solely at the pleasure of the Board, which permission may be revoked at any time. My failure to honor the authority of the Board and its members or to show them proper respect will be deemed to be a violation of this Code of Conduct. Accordingly, I understand that I may be called to speak to some or all the Board at any time and that if called, my failure to attend could result in an immediate suspension.
